I have trouble getting emotionally involved with people, and I can't understand why anyone would choose to do that. Usually that's fine. Lately, though, it's been making me feel kind of weird. I talked to a therapist, and she insists that I need people just like everyone else in the human race. The way things are going, I'm not sure if I even count as a member of the human race.

Feeling like you don’t belong or that you not connected to people, is a feature a large range of mental disorders/issues.

It is possible for what you described your feelings might be caused by a form of dissociation, for a little more information on it here is a text post I wrote up a while ago: dissociation. Though it is important to note that these feelings could be cause by a range of things including things like avoidant personality disorder and general social dysfunction issues.

I’m glad that your talking to your therapist about it, therapy can be very beneficial for problems like this and depending on the cause medications can also be helpful. I should strongly suggest you continue your therapy and maybe look into possible helpful medication if it is causing you distress/impacting on your life.
